Job Description
Isle of Man Rugby Development Officer
The Manx Executive Committee invites applications for the post of Isle of Man Rugby Development Officer.
The role is to work with Isle of Man clubs and schools in conjunction with the Rugby Football Union and Manx Sport & Recreations Sports Development Unit. The successful applicant must be prepared to work extended hours on occasions during times of peak activity including evenings and weekends.
The successful applicant is expected to :
• Play an active role in supporting club coaches and teachers and other adults in schools in increasing their knowledge of, and confidence to deliver, the game of rugby.
• Build strong relationships with local rugby clubs, referees, and schools to grow engagement and commitment to join their local rugby club.
• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality coaching with targeted groups of players, through the provision of mentoring/support to club coaches and by identifying and training potential coaches. Evaluating sessions with the coaches and players
• Work with clubs, referees and schools to mentor and support existing coaches through development and delivery of creative initiatives.
• Support the development of all forms of rugby with all age groups and contribute to the growth of the numbers playing rugby.
• Maintain high professional standards, rugby’s core values and then promote these in the community.
• Improve the quality of experience for existing players and coaches by the use of mentoring, provision of specialist coaching courses with players/coaches and delivering continued improved and developed coaching tools and techniques.
• Attend matches involving senior and junior rugby throughout the season.
• Provide regular feedback to the MEC and Isle of Man sports bodies.
• Participate in Isle of Man rugby fixtures and development planning.
• Plan and aid in delivery of suitably identified rugby courses to ensure clubs and schools maintain their governance and coaching qualifications.
• Identify players, coaches or referees with requisite ability to progress beyond Isle of Man rugby.
Qualifications and person specification
• RFU (or World Rugby) Coaching qualification Level 2 minimum, preferably level 3 or a commitment to complete level 3 within 12 months of taking up the post.
• Recognised first aid qualification (St John’s / Red Cross / First Aid at work) and if not a commitment to complete within 6 months of taking up the post.
• Current RFU enhanced DBS disclosure, required prior to taking up the post.
• Coach developer qualification is desirable.
• National Foundation Referees (or World Rugby) Certificate part 1 or Entry Level Referee Award Phase 1 is desirable.
• Experience of coaching Rugby Union to young people and adults in a range of environments within schools and clubs.
• The RDO needs to be able to work effectively with coaches, players, clubs, referees, teachers, schools and Isle of Man sports bodies.
• Experience of supporting and mentoring so that people can reach their potential.
• A sound knowledge and strong understanding of the game of rugby union and its operation.
• Experience of creating a team atmosphere, working effectively with all interested parties in the rugby family.
• Understanding of player, coach, and referee pathways at junior and senior level so people can progress to aspirational or elite rugby.
Salary : £25,000 – 27,500*
It is anticipated that there will be opportunity to augment salary with organization of school holiday Rugby Camps with agreement of the Manx Executive Committee
